Rescue Engine Goes to Howard for Apartment Fire with People Trapped, Makes Rescues: 9100 blk Blues Alley

On May 31st, 2010, at 0509 hrs, Rescue Engine 49 was alerted for an apartment fire with report of persons trapped on the second floor apartment. Rescue Engine 49 arrived on scene to find heavy fire from a bottom floor apartment. The rescue engine's crew assisted 3 occupants from an adjacent exposure apartment, then proceeded into the apartment above the fire and rescued one occupant and assisted with a second rescue from the back bathroom. Both were transported to local hospitals and no update on their condition is available. Rescue Engine 49 operated on the scene for over 2 hours, with different tasks on the fire ground.

Main Street

The Laurel Main Street Festival on May 8th, 2010 has been a tradition for 30 years. Starting with a parade down the approximate mile of Main Street, the street is closed for the day, allowing visitors to shop at the over 200 street vendors. The Rescue Squad, Water Rescue, Rescue Engine, Ambulances and Chiefs vehicles represented our organization in the parade. After the parade the Squad staffed a recruitment table and managed primary Fire and EMS services for the festivities.

LPD on scene with one trapped after rollover: Talbott Ave & 6th Street

5-4-10 - Rescue Engine 49 was alerted for a vehicle accident with one occupant still in the vehicle and possibly pinned. Rescue Engine 49 arrived on scene, established command, and advised of one still trapped in the vehicle. The crew went to work stabilizing the vehicle, making patient contact, and promptly extricating the patient in under 4 minutes. Chief 49 assumed command and unit cleared in under 15 minutes.
