Another Water Rescue

|
Saturday May 30, 2009. Crews from LVRS were alerted to the report of people trapped in rising water on Governors Bridge Road. Upon arrival crews found two people stuck in their car and another two stuck on the wrong bank of the river with no way to get back. The water rescue team deployed, brought every one back to the shore and then assisted with the removal of the car from the water. |

Electrical Fire |
5/29/09 - PSC alerted Rescue Squad 849 for the report of a house on fire at 9120 Blue’s Lane in Howard 6’s area. Squad 849 was third due special, arriving second, assuming search and vent responsibilities. Squad 849 split crews and sent 1 crew for first floor primary search and the other crew for outside vent. The fire was contained to the exterior electrical shed on the bravo side of the structure. The squad and 849B responded on the run with 6. Units returned to service in under an hour. |

Smoke in the Laurel Mall |
5/29/09 – PSC alerted Rescue Engine 849 for the report of a building fire at 14828 Baltimore Ave at the Lenses Crafters in Laurel Mall. Rescue Engine 849 arrived on scene, picked up the connections on side A, and investigated smoke throughout the mall. A malfunctioning air handler was isolated as the source. Rescue Engine 849 and AACO E-27, provided ventilation and returned to service in under an hour. Chief 849B had the Laurel Mall Command. |

Door pop on Sweitzer Lane |
5/28/09 – Later that night, Squad 849 was dispatched to 14400 Sweitzer Lane, for an MVC. First arriving units found one occupant trapped in the car and requested the squad go to work. Squad 849 extricated the patient in under 7 minutes to the awaiting EMS crew and returned to service thereafter. Chief 849B had the Sweitzer Lane Command. |

Jessup Basement Fire |
5/28/09 – At 1512hrs PSC alerted Squad 849, mutual aid to AACO, at 1701 Vestmont Court in AACO 29’s area for the house on fire. Squad 849 and 849B responded on the call with 5 and were assigned RIT upon arrival. Crews split and completed a circle check as well as ensuring gas was isolated to the structure. Units returned to service at 1713hrs. |

Flash Flooding brings Water Rescue

5/25/09 – Water Rescue 849 was several calls today,during the flash flooding, for vehicles stranded in the water with occupants trapped in fast moving water. Water Rescue 849, Chief 849B, and the team leader rescued 4 people from the flash flooding conditions on Ammendale Road in 831’s area. Company 849 worked with Tuxedo-Cheverly Station 822 to effect rescues on the northside of the county. LVRS maintained crews in quarters while on calls. See link below.

1 Trapped on B/W Parkway |
5/15/09 – Units were alerted for the B/W Parkway at Laurel Bowie Road for the report of a MVC with several trapped. Squad 849 arrived on scene, stabilized the car with and extricated the patient to awaiting EMS crews in under 10 minutes. Squad 849 returned to service in an hour. |

On May 09, 2009, The SQ, RE, A498, A499, WR 49 and Chiefs participated in the parade and provided emergency fire / EMS for the festivities. A very special heartfelt thanks to the members who helped make sure the equipment was cleaned and participated in the event.

LVRS Transfers to District Heights

| On May 7th, 2009, District Heights was alerted for a gas leak in the structure. During the incident several firefighters were hurt and sent to local hospitals. Volunteers manned Rescue Engine 849, called in a second crew, and were transferred immediately to District Heights Co. 26 with Truck Company 809. Volunteers ran several calls ranging from Box alarms to Gas Leaks before returning home 7 hours later. |
