Vehicle Fire Keeps Rescue Engine Busy on Sunday Morning

Fire 071209

On July 12th, midway through a sunny Sunday morning in Laurel, the crew aboard Rescue Engine 849 was alerted to a vehicle fire. Multiple addresses were called in initially, but as soon as the crew turned the corner from the station, a large column of smoke could be seen, leading the engine to in front of 802 5th Street. There the crew found a church van with the engine compartment and front portion of the vehicle fully involved in flames. The lone occupant had already safely exited the vehicle after the start of the accidental fire, likely caused by a mechanical failure. The crew extinguished the fire and then cleaned up the area as the vehicle was towed away.
