Mike Skidmore has been honored by the Laurel American Legion as "Rescue Squadsmen of the Year" at the Annual American Legion Public Safety Dinner. He is joined here by Assistant Chief Rafael Gibson.

1st Due Apartment Fire

Tuesday, October 28th at 2213, Company 849 was alerted to the apartment fire at 12903 Laurel Bowie Rd. RE849, A849, C849A, and C849B responded. RE849 arrived on the scene first with smoke showing. RE849's crew quickly advanced a line to the 3rd floor where they found a room on fire. The crew was able to make a quick stop to the fire, keeping it from spreading into the roof. Investigations was called and found the cause of the fire was due to faulty wiring in the pipe chase. Crews were held for just over 2 hours.

WATER RESCUE GOES TO FAR SOUTH SIDE

On October 21, Water Rescue 849 was dispatched to Pohick Bay to assist units from surrounding areas to find a missing Police Officer who was assisting during a water rescue drill. Crews staged till they were released two hours later.

FATAL ON RT.1

|
On October 20th at 0440, RE849 and A849 were alerted for the auto at Rt.1 and Gorman Ave. RE849 arrived on the scene to find a car that had lost control and ran into an SUV in a car sales lot causing it to turn on its side. Unfortunately the driver was a priority 4 upon arrival and units were placed in service within 15 minutes. Later on that day RE849 was called back to assist removing the victim from the car.

Early Evening Entrapment

In the early evening hours of Saturday, October 11th. RE849, A849, M849, EMS811, Ch849A (as Batt6) responded with units from 810 and HoCo6 for a MVC with multiple trapped victims. Two victims were rapidly extricated and transported to a local trauma center.

PG County / Mutual Aid Explosion and Mass Shelter Drill

On Wed 2 Oct 2008, RS849, A849, MCSU 849 participated with multiple county and mutual aid, bomb squads, hospital, police and fire department agencies in an explosion, mass casualty and sheltering drill.

Car into Tree on Springfield Road

|
At approximately 0200 hours on Thursday, October 2nd, RS849 was alerted to a car into a tree with one trapped on Springfield Road . Chief 849 was the first to arrive and confirmed the driver was still trapped and the passenger from the car was out roaming in the street. Crews from 831 arrived and quickly went to work taking care of the passenger and stabilizing the scene. RS849 extricated the driver who had both legs trapped under a collapsed dashboard. The trapped patient was transported to a local trauma center by US Park Police Eagle 2.
