MVA with Entrapment on the B/W Parkway

Saturday May 31, 2008. At approximately 1930 hours crews from LVRS were alerted to respond to the area of Route 197 and the B/W Parkway for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Rescue Squad 49 was the first to arrive and discovered a car into a tree with the driver still trapped. As the crews from the Squad went to work, Rescue Engine 49 arrived and split the crew to assist in the extrication and provide a suppression line. The ambulance arrived and began triage of the multiple patients on the scene. Crews quickly extricated the driver who was transported by Eagle 1 to a local area hospital.. There were a total of five patients; all were transported to local area hospitals. Crews from LVRS included C849 (Command), C849A (Operations), Rescue Squad 849, Rescue Engine 849, and Ambulance 849. Additional units responding included 831, 818, 835, Batt 6 and AA27.

Pam doCarmo wins State EMS Award

On Wednesday May 21st, the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services System (MIEMSS) honored the state's career & volunteer EMS workers by hosting the state Stars of Life Awards Ceremony. Robert Bass, MD - Executive Director of MIEMSS and Donald DeVries, Esq - Chair, Maryland EMS Board, presented "The Right Care When It Counts", Maryland EMS for Children Award, Maryland Star of Life, Maryland EMS Citizen Award, EMS Provider of the Year, EMD Provider of the Year, the Leon W. Hayes Award for Excellence in EMS, Maryland EMS-Geriatric Award, the Outstanding EMS Program Award and MIEMSS Director's Award for Excellence in EMS.
One of the winners was our own Pam doCarmo who won the Leon W. Hayes Award for Excellence in EMS. Pam earned this prestigious award for her more then 30 years of dedicated work as a volunteer in EMS, providing the community with the finest quality of care and, as an EMS Instructor, providing the finest quality of EMT and Paramedic training.
The event as held at the BWI Marriott on a bright Wednesday afternoon and was very well attended by friends, family and co-workers of the award winners.
Our congratulations go out to every one of this year's winners and this year's nominees.

LVRS Water Rescue in Action

Friday May 16, 2008. Early on Friday morning LVRS was alerted to the report of a missing person who was involved in a foot chase with Greenbelt Police. Upon arrival the report was delivered that the person while trying to evade the police apparently entered a storm water collection pond located along the roadside of Greenbelt Road and never emerged. With all of the rain over the previous week, the pond was over six feet deep in several places. LVRS dressed out divers and working with shore tenders from other teams conducted a search of the area. Chief 49 had the Operations Sector. Units from LVRS responding on the call were Chief 49, Team Leader 49 and Water Rescue 49.

Busy Morning for the Water Rescue Crew

Monday morning, May 12, around 0100, Water Rescue 49 ran their first call of the day to Co 31's area for a car in the water but was placed in service prior to arrival. The next call came in at 0520 to Floral Park Rd and Piscataway Rd in Co. 47's area. Once again we were placed in service, but were told to transfer to Co.22. While enroute to Co 22, calls came in for the Largo and West Lanham areas for cars stuck in the water. The morning ended in AA County’s 27 area on Brock Bridge Rd. where the team finally saw some action, performing a water rescue. |

Laurel Lake Fest

On Saturday May 3rd, 2008 units from LVRS participated in Laurel Lake Fest.
Laurel Lake Fest is held annually to usher in the spring / summer season and to show the citizens of Laurel the facilities at Laurel Lakes.
