Congratulations to Sgt. Mike Snyder

After months of being in the application process for New York City EMS, Sergeant Mike Snyder got the phone call telling him that he would have to move to New York. Snyder, also being a Live-in, and a dedicated Volunteer had three weeks to move out. The Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad would like to say "Congratulations" and "Good Luck with your new career". LVRS would also like to thank Bladensburg Co.9 for covering the engine and squad so we could have a send off for Sgt. Snyder.

Fatal Crash on Fort Mead Road

Sunday, June 29th - At 1500 RS849 was alerted to Anne Arundle County for the crash at Fort Mead Rd. and Brock Bridge Rd. Chief 27 arrived on scene requesting additional units including a MedEvac. RS849 arrived on scene to find one trapped and not breathing.

Police Officer/Volunteer Firefighter Killed on Bowie Road

Friday June 27th - Prince George's County Police Corporal Richard Findley, an Active-Life Member of the Beltsville Volunteer Fire Department, was killed in the line of duty while attempting to arrest suspected car thieves on Bowie Road in Laurel.

The toughts and prayers of the members of the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad go out to Cpl Findley's Family and our Brothers & Sisters at both Beltsville VFD & PGPD.

Kitchen Fire with People Trapped

Saturday, June 21, 2008. At just after 0200 hrs the tones were struck for the report of a fire in the apartment on South Laurel Drive. As units began responding, Communications announced multiple updates with the report of people trapped in the building in multiple apartments. Engine 849 was the first to arrive and reported smoke showing from a garden style apartment. The engine crew went to work and quickly extinguished the fire in the kitchen of the reporting apartment. Crews from 810, 814, 831 completed searches and removed several people from the building. Crews were held for approximately 2 hours. Chief 849 had the Command

House Fire on Montague Drive

On Wednesday June 4, 2008, at approximately 2100 hours, crews from LVRS were alerted to the report of a house on fire on Montague Drive . Upon arrival Rescue Engine 849 reported fire coming the roof and eaves of two story single family home. Crews quickly went to work and found the fire up in the attic from an apparent lightning strike. Crews were held for just under an hour. Units on the scene from LVRS included Chief 849 (as Safety 801), RE849, RS849, Chief 849A and Ambulance 849. Chief 849A had the command.
