Montpelier Rd gets a Rude Awakening

Friday morning, July 25th, summer silence turned into midnight madness as two cars came barreling down Montpelier Rd. Both cars collide, one strikes a tree head on while the other rolls over onto its roof and comes to rest in a resident’s driveway.

At 2:37am , the alarms go off and Laurel units spring into action for a MVA with people trapped and a rollover. RS849 was first to arrive on the scene, then A849 along with RE10 and Medic 849. Units arrived to what at first it appeared to be a horrific scene. Neighbors excitedly stated there were at least five people injured. As crews approached the vehicles they found them abandoned. No victims, just twisted metal. Where could the victims be? As the search for victims continued, PGPD joined in, driving up and down the streets looking for the victims.

After a fruitless search, all units returned to service. One hour later, A849 was called for a 14 y/o female sitting at the curb, near the site of the collision. She was in the overturned vehicle, unable to remember what had happened. She was found to have multiple injuries and was treated at the scene and transported to a local trauma center for further treatment. The other victims were never found…….

National Night Out

Mayor Craig A. Moe and Laurel Police Chief Dave Crawford invite the community to the City of Laurel’s National Night Out, which will be held on Tuesday, August 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Laurel Lakes Gude Park.

National Night Out is a nation-wide event that is designed to heighten community awareness of crime and drug prevention, generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are united and organized in their crime-fighting efforts. Residents are encouraged to turn on their porch lights to show support for this event and to show the criminal element that they are ready and willing to protect their neighborhoods.

The City of Laurel’s National Night Out will include free food and activities for all age groups with static displays and demonstrations from the Laurel Police Department’s Emergency Response Team and K-9 Unit, in addition to the MNCPPC Mounted Horse Unit, Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, and the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad.

At 7:00pm, the US Park Police helicopter will land on the Laurel Lakes field and allow event goers a close look at the helicopter and learn more about its operations.

Mayor Craig Moe and Laurel Police Chief Dave Crawford would like to thank all participants for helping to make this event an informative and fun evening for all who will attend. For more information, please contact PFC. Theresa Kelliher, Community Policing, at 301-498-0092 ext. 115.

Laurel City Independence Day Parade

On Saturday the 5th, the City of Laurel held its annual Independence Day Parade. The rain held off for the parade and allowed us to relax a little before the fireworks at The Lake in the evening.
