Early Morning Apartment Fire

At around 06:30 am on Saturday morning, December 22, 2007 , E849, RS849, Ch849A and Ch849B, responded to the apartment fire on Muirkirk Road . The first units arrived on the scene reporting smoke showing. The terrace level apartment fire was held to one apartment and quickly controlled. Approximately 20 apartment units were evacuated due to smoke conditions throughout the entire building. Three civilians were evaluated for exposure to smoke, but not transported. Company 49 units assisted in the investigation and cleared the scene in 2 hours.

Camaraderie During The Holiday Season

On December 21st, while helping our fellow firefighters from company 9, four of our firefighters got treated to a 3 alarm fire in Berwyn Heights . We arrived on E809 & E809B and we operated as a team for about five hours helping with fire extinguishment and RIC duties.

Back to Back Working Fires on December 18th

As units were backing in to the station from a previous house fire, Rescue Squad 849 and Chief 849B (as Battalion Chief 806) were alerted for Mutual Aid to Howard County for a reported Townhouse Fire.  Units arrived on the scene to find a townhouse fully involved with extension to an adjacent house.  A second alarm was quickly requested.  Rescue Squad 849 operated in the structure conducting a primary search and opening up the walls and ceiling.  Chief 849B operated on Division 2 of the structure.

Afternoon House Fire for Station 49

On December 18, 2007 at 1630, Station 49 was alerted for a reported house fire on Bignonia Drive . Rescue Engine 849, Rescue Squad 849, Chief 849B (as Battalion Chief 806) responded with 8 volunteers. Units arrived on the scene with smoke and fire showing from a bedroom on the 2nd floor. Crews rapidly advanced a hose line and knocked the fire while conducting the primary search. The crew was able to save a dog from the bedroom that was on fire and brought it to EMS crews awaiting to treat it. Units assisted investigators with the investigation and found the cause of the fire to be a faulty electrical strip. Units cleared in 2 hours.

Anne Arundel Hazmat

On December 16, 2007, Rescue Squad 849 responded Mutual Aid to Anne Arundel County for the Hazmat Incident. The crew assisted the Anne Arundel County Hazardous Material team with investigating suspicious spills in three stores in the Maryland City area. Rescue Squad 849 operated on the scene for about 2½ hours prior to being released.

Rescue Engine on Two Alarm Apartment Fire

On December 16, 2007, Rescue Engine 849 and Chief 849B responded mutual aid to Montgomery County for the apartment fire in Burtonsville. Units arrived on the scene and found a garden style apartment with fire on the third and fourth floors. Rescue Engine 849 with four volunteers was assigned to advance a line from side Charlie to the fire apartment via a ground ladder. Chief 849B operated on the fourth floor. Units cleared after operating for a little over two hours.

Anne Arundel County Rescue

On Friday afternoon, Dec 14, 2007, RE849, CH849A were alerted to assist Anne Arundel County M-27 with the semi-conscious victim in the woods near the Patuxent river. The crew from RE849 assisted the crews from Anne Arundel County with a Z-Rig and the stokes basket to provide the victim a safe transition from the river basin to the road and subsequent transport.

Overturned on Interstate 95

On Sunday December 10, 2007, RS 849 and Chief 849B responded along with other surrounding units to a crash on S/B I95 at Old Gunpowder Road . Upon arrival units found a single van overturned and in the woods. The crew from RS 849 stabilized the vehicle and helped with packaging the trauma patient for transport to a local trauma center. Units cleared in less than an hour.

Fatal Crash on Rt. 197

Just before midnight on December 8, 2007 Station 49 was alerted for the MCV with a possible fatality on route 197 at Basswood Drive . Responding units included RE849, SQ849, A849, and M849 along with CH849A (BC806), Division Chief 802 and EMS811. Units arrived on the scene and found one priority 1 patient and one priority 4 patient. Units treated and transported the priority 1 patient to a local trauma center. SQ849 stood by to assist the police and coroner’s office in the crash investigation and subsequently extricated the priority 4 patient after the investigation was complete.

Mutual Aid Working Fire in Savage

On December 4th, RE849 was sent to 9375 Davis Rd. in Howard county for the building fire. Howard Engine 62 arrived on the scene with smoke showing. RE849 arrived on the scene as second due engine and secured Howard Engine 62's water supply. The crews found a fire in a small office area and brought it under control very quickly. RE849 cleared in an hour.

Overturned on Interstate 95

On December 1, SQ849 was alerted to N/B 95 and Sandy Spring Rd. for the motor vehicle crash. Units from Company 10 arrived on the scene to find an overturned SUV with 3 patients who had been ejected. SQ849 arrived on the scene and quickly went to work stabilizing the SUV and assisting with patient care. Two Priority 1 patients went to trauma centers by air. and two Priority 2 patients went by ground.

Laurel Holiday Parade

On December 1, 2007 the Squad provided Mrs. Clause for the Laurel City Holiday Parade.


MVC /c Entrapment

On the morning of Dec 1, 2007. SQ849 and CH849A were alerted for the MVC with entrapment on Powermill and 197. With units from 819 and M818, one priority 2 trauma by air to a local trauma center.
