Water Rescue at Bladensburg Marina

August 4, 2006. At approximately 1400 hours units for the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad Water Rescue Team was alerted to the Baldensburg Marina for the report of one person in the water. Chief 9, Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Depeartment, was the first to arrive on the scene and established the command. Upon his arrival Command confirmed that there was person that was swimming in the waters not too far from the shore. The team members from Co. 22 were the first to arrive and quickly deployed to do surface scans. The team from LVRS arrived and began to set up for a recovery operations.With plently of experience from previous incidents in the marina, Command quickly began to request staffing from surrounding jurisdictions. Chief 49 assumed the Dive Sector and an integrated team of DC Metropolitian Police and LVRS went to work for a recovery. Incoming units from Co. 56 and mutual aids began preparing in case we had an extended operation. In less than 30 minutes after divers were in the water the victim was located and recovered.

One Pinned on Route 1

Aug 3 2006 approx 2230hrs, RE 49 and Medic 49 were alerted to a 9-I at Rt 1 and Ritz Way. Chief 31 arrived on scene and reported he had a car on its side with one pinned. RE 49 arrived on scene and extricated the patient in short order. The patient sustaned multiple injuries and was airlifted to a local Trauma Center by MSP Trooper 2. National Night Out

On 08.01.06, The City of Laurel Sponsored a National Night Out event at Laurel Lakes. The Laurel Rescue Squad and the Laurel Fire Department put on a combined display of auto extrication techniques.
