Parking Garage Collapse

June 30, 2005. Just before midnight LVRS was called for the report of a parking garage collapse at Laurel Mall with two vehicles trapped under the concrete. Upon arrival crews from Rescue Engine 49 discovered that the 2nd floor walkway from the garage to the mall had collapsed and landed on two vehicles parked at the loading dock. The concrete walkway was approximately 20 x 50 and fell from a height of approximately 25 feet on two moving vans. The one rear-box vehicle was completely crushed. After securing the scene and establishing a hot zone, crews from the PGFD collapse team searched the area and the vehicles with a search-cam. No victims were found. Crews operated for just over an hour and a half. Chief 49 had the command.

Rollover on 197

Sunday June 5, 2005. At approximately 1350 on Sunday afternoon, units from LVRS were called to the report of a crash on Laurel Bowie Rd (Route 197). Upon arrival crews from Rescue Squad 49 and A498 found a car that had been T-boned and then flipped over multiple times. Evaluation of the cars found 4 patients; one of which was pediatric. After calling in additional BLS and ALS units a medevac was called for. One patient was transported via Trooper 8; the others went by ground to area hospitals. |

Stove Fire in Town Center

| Saturday June 4, 2005. Engine 491 was called for the investigation of smoke in the building to the apartments in Town Center. Upon arrival the Engine discovered a smell of smoke in the building. After forcing entry to the apartment, the crew found heavy smoke banked from floor to ceiling. Advancing they found the stove on fire in the apartment. Crews made quick work of it and there was no extension out of the stove. Chief 49 had the command and crews operated less than an hour. |

Early Morning First Due Building Fire goes to a Task Force

Thursday June 2, 2005. At approximately 0615 on Thursday morning crews from LVRS responded with Engine 491 (Rescue Engine 49 was out of service at the time) and Rescue Squad 49 to the report of smoke from the building on C Street off Main Street Laurel. Upon arrival crew only noted light smoke from the roof from side alpha. However, upon completing size up the officer from Rescue Squad 49 found heavy smoke from side Charlie . Deploying engine crew to the first floor, they discovered heavy smoke in the building but no fire. Crews discovered the fire in basement that was only accessible from side charlie. The engine company from Beltsville took an aggressive attack into the basement and extinguished the fire. Due to the heavy fire in the basement, the floors had to be braced to hold the ceiling up before crews could complete the overhaul. Crews were held for over four hours. Chief 49 had the command.
