Squad Members Certify in Ice Rescue

Sunday January 23rd - Members of the Squad went out on the finally frozen Laurel Lakes to complete their Ice Rescue certification class. It has been a long warm winter waiting to complete this class, but paitience finally paid off.

Car into a Gruardrail - Person Trapped

January 18, 2005. At approximately 2100 hrs Chief 49, 49B, Rescue Squad 49 and Ambulance 499 responded for a report of a car overturned with one trapped. Upon arrival Chief 49B discovered a car suspended on its side at a 45 degree angle with the guardrail that had penetrated through the engine compartment and exiting through the rear window. The driver was trapped as the dash and steering assembly had been sheared loose from the penetration of guardrail and collapsed on his lap. Crews from Rescue Squad shored the car and removed the roof. Once inside the car the crews made quick work of the debris and rapidly extricated the patient who was flown by helicopter to a local hospital.

After the call was complete and patient safely off the scene, the tow truck driver asked for assistance to extricate the car from the guardrail.

LVRS 2005 Elections

Medical Evacuation Helicopter Crashes in Potomac

Monday, January 10 - Just before midnight, the LVRS Water Rescue Team was altered to assist with the rescue and recovery operation after a Medvac helicopter crashed into the Potomac River as it returned to its Stafford, VA base. Chief 49, Chief 49B, Squad 49, Dive Unit 49, Boat 49A and Boat 49B responded to the scene and divers from LVRS operated on the river until mid-morning. Reports from the Prince George's Fire Department Public Information Office state that one crew member, the flight nurse, was rescued from the water and transported to Washington Hospital Center by the Alexandria Fire Department Water Rescue Team while the flight medic and the pilot died in the crash.

One Trapped at 8th & Talbot

Monday, January 10 - In the midst of a busy afternoon, Squad 49 and Ambulance 496, along with units from Station 10, Medic 70, & Ambulance 117 were alerted for a two vehicle crash with one car in a ditch and the report of at least one patient trapped. Squad 49, with the help of units from 10, extracated one patient from the car in the ditch who was transported to LRH by ground.

B-W Pkwy Fatal

Sunday, January 9th - Single car fatal crash on the northbound B-W Parkway. Patient was extricated by Squad 49 and transported in trauma arrest to Laurel Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Chief 49B had command and Chief 31 had the Operations Sector.
