Car into a pole- one trapped

Friday April 29, 2005. At approximately 10AM crews from the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to crash with one trapped at 198 and Old Gunpowder Road. Upon arrival crews from the engine company reported one still trapped in the car. Crews from Rescue Squad 49 went to work to extricate the patient. In order to remove the patient, crews had to jack the dash and remove the driver's side of the vehicle. The floor and fire wall of the engine compartment had collapsed trapping he patient's legs. The patient was removed and transported to a local trauma center via medevac. Chief 49, Rescue Squad 49 and A496 were on the call.

Early Morning Haz-Mat

On Tuesday, April 12, at 0855 AM Engine Company 49 was alerted for a level 3 Hazardous Material Box at 5500 Vandusen road. Engine Company 10 arrived on the scene and found several “sea containers” fully involved with extension to several cars. The crew from the Rescue Engine assisted with suppression activities. Rescue engine 49 cleared at 1141. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

First Due 2 Alarm Fire on Baltimore Ave

On Monday April 11, 2005, at approximately 1750 Engine Company 49 was alerted to 14933 Baltimore Ave, (The Louisiana Grill) for the building fire. Rescue engine 49 arrived on the scene to find the side of the building on fire with heavy extension into the structure. The Rescue engine crew made quick work of the fire on the inside of the building and opened up the ceilings to get at the rest of the fire which had made its way into the cockloft and walls. The fire was started when a lit cigarette was thrown into a mulch pile on the outside of the building. No injuries were reported and Engine Company 49 returned to service at approximately 2000 hrs.

Apartment Fire on Barnett Lane

April 9, 2005. At approximately 930 Saturday morning, Rescue Engine 49 responded to a report of an apartment fire on Barnett Lane. At arrival Rescue Engine 49 reported smoke showing from the front of the building. Upon entering the apartment they found the entire apartment completely charged with smoke. During the search, crews found a small fire that originated in the dryer. Crews made quick work of the fire and cleared the scene in just over an hour. Chief 49 had the command.

Pipe Bombs in Garage Summon Crews

On Monday the 4th of April at 1921 Rescue Engine 49, Ambulance 496 and Chief 49 (Morgan) responded to 13100 North Point Lane for a report of explosive devices in a garage. Chief 49 (Morgan) had the command. Units from the Prince Georges county bomb team made entry into the house and found what appeared to be 2 pipe bombs. The explosives were then later destroyed by the bomb team. The origin of the explosives is still under investigation. Units from 49 cleared at approximately midnight.
