Anne Arundel County Taskforce Building Fire

Photos: Spike Gill

At 0945 on Saturday the 19th of June, Rescue Squad 49 (with 7) and C49A (Arsenault) were alerted for a building fire in Anne Arundel County. First arriving units found heavy fire showing from a detached garage and fire showing from the roof of the closely neighboring house. Due to the amount of fire showing the incident commander quickly requested that a taskforce alarm be struck. While responding, Rescue Squad 49 was instructed to begin searches in the building and the garage due to one
occupant who was unaccounted for.. Once on the scene, Rescue Squad 49 split
its crews into two teams. One team conducted the search (which was negative), began to vent the building and secured utilities while the second crew from Squad 49 placed a second hand-line in service and extinguished the fire that had extended into the cockloft area and then made their way to the garage and put the final blows on the remaining fire. One fire fighter was transported to a local area hospital for injuries
sustained in fighting the fire. Station 49 maintained 2 additional crews during the incident, the cause is still under investigation. C49A (Arsenault) and Rescue Squad 49 cleared in about 3 hours.
