2 Trapped on 197

Early in the afternoon of Saturday August 14th, Chief 49B, Rescue Squad 49 and A496 were dispatched to crash with report of people trapped. This particular of 197 is known for some pretty horrific accidents, this one lived up to the expectation. Chief 35 B (Greenbelt VFD) was in the area and arrived on scene shortly after the engine from Bowie. After confirming two people trapped, they quickly called for a medic unit. Compounding the extrication was that the vehicle had wedged between two trees and on a hill. One tree was hit head on and the other directly hit the B-Post on the passenger side. Both patients were rapidly extricated and taken by land to an area hospital. Chief 35B had the command and Chief 49B had the operations.

Friday the 13th...

Late in the afternoon on Friday Rescue Engine 49 was dispatched to a townhouse fire with a report of people trapped. Upon arrival nothing was evident, however as the engine crew made entry heavy smoke poured from the front door. After searching the first floor, the crews from LVRS determined the fire was in the basement. Advancing into the basement they found the fire with half the basement destroyed. Cluttered with multiple appliances, mattresses and lawn mowers in the basement the crews operated for almost two hours to extinguish the fire. Chief 49 had the command.

Meanwhile on the other side of town.....

While in route to the fire in Montpelier, Chief 49B discovered a crash. He initially discovered two vehicles with multiple patients. One vehicle still had people trapped inside. Chief 49B quickly requested 2 engines, one BLS, one ALS and a Rescue Squad. Rescue Squad 14 was released from the basement fire in Montpelier and responded to the crash. Upon their arrival, they extricated the patient who was flown out to nearby hospital.
