EMT/Firefighter

A Firefighter/EMT membership is for those interested in providing both firefighting and EMS service (having or obtaining BOTH Firefighter I and EMT are required). All Fire/EMS members are cross-trained to operate on all LVRS apparatus. All training is provided. LVRS apparatus responds to a variety of fire 9-1-1 calls including gas leaks, house and apartment fires, car accidents, severe medical emergencies, and many others. The Fire/EMS member is expected to pass Firefighter I and EMT-B courses, and get “turned over” through the in-station testing process. Members must meet the core requirements listed above.

Operations

EMS Only

We are seeking both experienced and new volunteer EMTs and paramedics. All training, equipment and uniforms are provided. EMS Only membership is for individuals who only wish to ride our ambulances in a Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) capacity. All members are required to have or obtain Maryland EMT within 18 months of joining. All training is provided at no cost. Members must meet the core requirements listed above.

Core Requirements

For All Membership Types

  • Core Requirement #1

    Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a HS Diploma or GED. Cadets are 16-17 years of age.

  • Core Requirement #2

    Must be able to be assigned to a duty night in which you consistently stand duty 12 hours at the station from 1900 - 0700. If unable to stand duty during week night - duty period on Saturday is available (0700-1900)

  • Core Requirement #3

    Must be able to stand additional duty at the station one Sunday every 8 weeks based on rotation from 0700 – 1900.

  • Core Requirement #4

    Must be able to attain Maryland Emergency Medical Technician certification within 18 months of joining

  • Core Requirement #5

    Must be able to pass the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department background investigation and physical.

  • Core Requirement #6

    Be willing to be an active member of the organization, including duty shift participation, completion of hundreds of hours of initial and ongoing training and participation in department events
