At 1423 Engine 849 was alerted to respond to the 12700 blk of Laurel Bowie Rd for the report of a fuel spill in the Rite Aid parking lot. Engine 849 arrived on scene minutes late to find a large fuel truck leaking a unknown substance. At this time Engine 849 contacted PSC and requested a full Hazmat assignment. This brought units over 20 Unit from all over the county to the scene. Engine 849 dropped a supply line and isolated the area till other Hazmat specialist units could arrive and begin operations. Hazmat unit 816 and Hazmat support unit 845 arrived and worked to control the spill. MDE was also requested to the scene due to the chemical running off into the drains located near the truck. Hazmat unit made entry into the hot zone where they worked to identify and control the chemical spill. Units where released a little over 2 hours from the initial assignment being dispatched. All Hazmat units and command officer remained on scene with MDE for clean up. Great job to all units and members who operated on this call.
